The FIRE Exit
Pablo’s own next act — retired at 34, now writing down the working. Built from a blank folder to a 139-page launch: essays, ten interactive calculators, a 31-country tax atlas where every figure cites an official source, an open dataset and its own newsletter infrastructure — launching at a perfect 100 on all four Google PageSpeed measures, mobile and desktop, on day one.

DAYLIGHT · lightSTAIRWELL · darkAn atlas that shows its receipts.
Thirty-one countries, one page each, covering the rules that actually move an early retirement: how gains, wealth and leaving are taxed, what residence takes, how long citizenship runs. Every figure links to an official source and wears the date it was last verified — and the whole summary layer ships as an open dataset (JSON + CSV, CC BY-NC), edition-stamped so citations never rot. A five-answer quiz turns it into a personal shortlist; result cards carry the reader’s numbers in the URL.

The brief
A new publication with a hard editorial law: every number on the site must be checkable, or it doesn’t ship. Financial-independence content for Europeans — a space where most advice is American and most numbers are stale — written first-person by someone who actually did it: quit in 2011, cycled 47,000 km around the world, retired at 34. The site had to carry essays, serious interactive tools and a country-by-country tax reference that stays current — and still load like a page with none of that.
What we built
A full publishing platform, not a brochure. Seven essays and a 20-minute European FIRE guide. Ten calculators that run entirely in the browser — nothing a reader types is ever sent anywhere — each with shareable result cards that carry the numbers in the URL itself. The centrepiece: a 31-country atlas of the rules that decide an early retirement, every figure linked to an official source and stamped with the date it was last checked, distilled into a five-answer shortlist quiz and published as an open dataset. Around it: a 42-term plain-English glossary, sitewide search, three tools any site can embed, and its own newsletter infrastructure — double opt-in, one-click unsubscribe, nightly encrypted backups.
The result
At launch: a perfect Google PageSpeed card on the homepage — 100 in performance, accessibility, best practices and SEO, mobile and desktop alike — accessibility, best practices and SEO at 100 on every page tested, and zero layout shift anywhere. All at full feature density, with three licensed typefaces and a hand-drawn brand animation on the hero. 139 pages in the sitemap on day one, every one crawled and verified: no broken links, no orphans, no duplicate titles.
More than a site
The design system is its own asset: emergency-exit signage as a brand language — the running man, the EXIT plates, the phosphor-green route that climbs the hero, a numbered wayfinding menu, and a runner that jogs along the header hairline as you read the long pieces. Honesty is engineered in, not just written: the return sliders default to what a century of market records supports, a quiet none-of-this-is-financial-advice line rides every footer, and the tools show their assumptions before their answers.
